Today Jim Hutchings talked with Dardan Isufi of Amnestie Canada (our French speaking section). Dardan is the Youth Representative on the Amnestie Canada board and is quite active in his home town of Montreal. He has been visiting Regina and connected with Amnesty members at U of R and Group 91. We talked about the role of Amnesty International in researching and documenting Human Rights abuses around the world and organizing actions to try to make a difference.

Today, Jim Hutchings spoke with Peter Gilmer, an Anti-Poverty activist with the Regina Anti-Poverty Ministry. The United Nations Declaration on Human Rights specifically names adequate housing and food as human rights to which every person is entitled. In Canada there are many instances in which both parents in a family with children work at jobs paying minimum wage and are unable to meet the basic needs of the family. We talk about possible solutions, progress that has been made and what needs to be done. We'll give you a hint.....contact your local representatives and urge them to give this problem the attention it deserves.

Qu'Appelle teacher, Sheena Koops about her personal quest for understanding the Treaties which bind us all, Settlers and First Nations, in a partnership to share the land and look after each other. Sheena has taken it upon herself to improve her understanding of the treaties and share this understanding with everyone who will listen.
