Main topic was Women's Human Rights here in Canada and around the world. We also touched on the Provincial Conference happening tomorrow at Zion Church in Moose Jaw.

Today, Gord Barnes and Jim Hutchings spoke with John Klein about the evolution of blogging and how it has given the ordinary citizen a means of expressing him/herself. Blogs can be about anything from hobbies to issues political. John passed along hints about how to promote your blog and how "whistleblowers" might be able to protect themselves, should they decide to share information about wrongdoing they become privy to in the course of performing their duties as employees. Business and Government don't like having their misdeeds becoming public and usually attempt to silence and/or punish people who feel it their duty to let the public know. However, we did spend more time on the fun stuff about blogging.

Today, Mikayla Schultz and Jim Hutchings teamed up for CJTR's annual Radiothon fundraiser and guested on each other's show. They started off at 11:30 on "Gender Talk" with Mikayla and Jim, joined a little later by Riley Balon. Then at noon, they continued with "HumanRightsRadio". We learn about what is happening with Transgender issues and brought up to date with Amnesty events, like the Provincial Conference happening Oct 19 in Moose Jaw.

We had good news from Iran where a number of prisoners of conscience have been released, but bad news from Canada in the government's unfortunate attitude towards the use of torture. More letters to be written. Also news about the AI provincial conference upcoming in Moose Jaw.

Today Human Rights Radio hosted a great show about a movement that is making a difference internationally and locally, Playing for Change. Today's show features a return of co-host Mona Hill who is herself involved at the local level of Playing for Change. Her special guests included Gary Robins, Christie Nenson, and Keiffer McLean. The discussion was about how much positive change can happen when kids are given the opportunity to get music lessons. The results go far beyond what you might think. As an added bonus, Keiffer had his guitar and performed live for us.

This is the second of two programmes organized by Karen McIver which have involved student participants in Trek School. The students are hosts of the programmes interviewing guests whom they have invited. They discuss how people can take part in making positive change in the community instead of being passive bystanders. This weeks co-hosts are Amanda Sauer and Alexandra Belekour and their guests are Crystal Palmer and Larry Kowalchuk.
